Becky Douglas

Becky Douglas is the wife of John L. Douglas, an international banking attorney in Atlanta with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky, & Walker.  They are the parents of nine children. 

Becky attended Queens’ College where she majored in music performance.  As a violinist she has performed with the Charlotte Symphony, the Chattanooga Symphony, the Atlanta Ballet, the Atlanta Opera, the Boston Ballet orchestra, and the American Ballet Theater.  She’s performed numerous solo concerts and recitals around the United States.

Five years ago, she founded a charity, Rising Star Outreach, to help the leprosy-affected people in Southern India.  Her work has been featured in the Ladies Home Journal, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Washington Post, Atlanta Social Season Magazine, and numerous other journals and magazines in the United States, Canada, England, Dubai, and Austria.  She is the subject of an hour-long PBS documentary, Breaking the Curse (narrated by Daryn Kagan) that has just completed 932 showings across the United States.  The documentary has just been named a winner of the Gracie Award for Best Documentary of the Year.  Becky is also the subject of a segment of  TV series, Small and Simple Things in Orange Co, California,  Profiles in Service, in Salt Lake City, and Good People, in Atlanta.  The BBC did a program on Rising Star’s work in India.  Becky was honored by the Atlanta Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as a Service Hero of the year.  The National Tamilnadu Foundation has named her An Angel of Service.  She was named as one of five annual “Classic Women” by Traditional Homes Magazine’s.  She is one of 25 Volunteer Heroes of Social Change  honored last year by Hands on Georgia, and has been named as one of Atlanta’s Fab Over-50 Winners by Swing Magazine.

Becky has spoken to audiences across the United States, on TV, radio, at the United Nations, in Canada, in Dubai, and in India.  She is a firm believer that within each of us lies the power to make a difference in the world.
